one on one

Yesterday afternoon I found myself alone with W. My friend Shannon had taken my big kids with hers to a corn maze, and Elijah was napping. I thought it might be a good opportunity to spend some one-on-one time with him; the more children you have, the harder it is to have time alone with each of them. I don't know how really big families do it... very intentionally, I'd imagine.


Anyway, since W is now fundamentally opposed to napping unless he accidentally passes out or succumbs to the sandman in the van, I decided that some quiet time on the couch might be a good idea. His needing some down time and my inability to get back in the groove after vacation found us lying on the couch, him on his end and me on mine, sharing a blanket in the middle. Nice. W had selected a Land Before Time DVD to watch, and as we cozied up in the darkness of the den, I thought he might doze off. I was fairly certain I would. Just moments past the previews, this is the conversation that followed:


W: I wuv you, Mama.



Me: Aw, I love you too, buddy.



W: Now move your big honkin' feet... pweez.
